WANHAI launches new direct service; ASIA AMERICA VII - AA7

WANHAI, a global leader in transportation and logistics, recently announced the launch of new service - the ASIA AMERICA VII - AA7 aimed at supporting direct volumes from Colombo to the USA, giving customers a wide choice of direct USA Port call options, via Colombo. This new service is set to commence from China and is one of the fastest boats directly to the USA. We are excited about the opportunities that this service opens for Sri Lanka, especially in terms of supporting our major exporters to the USA. In addition to supporting our major exporters to strengthen the export supply chain, this service will also enhance transshipment cargo to Sri Lanka from the Indian subcontinent and the Gulf.

The AA7 service will operate with a weekly sailing to the USA, with the ports of call Shanghai – Ningbo - Taipei – Shekou – Cai Mep – Singapore – Colombo – New York – Norfolk – Charleston – Savannah. Wan Hai Lines has predominantly been an intra-asia carrier and the direct service from Colombo to the US is of significance not only to Sri Lankan exporters but also for Colombo Port due to the improved connectivity of the Indian Sub-Continent to the Middle East and the United States of America.

The maiden voyage of MV Wan Hai A10 V.E001, a vessel with a capacity of 13,100 TEUs arrived at the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT) at Colombo Port, on the 16th of May 2023, welcomed by dignitaries including the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation- Hon Nimal Siripala de Silva. This vessel is equipped with the latest technology, and larger vessels are expected to arrive in the future.

Wan Hai Lines, Ltd. is a Taiwanese shipping company founded in 1965. Since then, it has become one of the largest players in the container shipping industry, with a fleet of 142 vessels and a carrying capacity of more than 430,854 TEUs. Wan Hai is the thirteenth-largest container shipping company in the world (2023), with its headquarters in Taiwan. Wan Hai Lines now offers direct Port service to 33 different countries. Wan Hai Lines have been in operation in Sri Lanka for 25 years with its joint venture partner McLarens Shipping Limited.
