Day of the Seafarer is a globally recognized initiative established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to acknowledge the vital role played by seafarers in driving international trade and maintaining the global supply chain. The theme for this year, "MARPOL at 50 - Our Commitment Goes On," aligns with IMO's focus on raising awareness about protecting the marine environment in 2023. Under the hashtag campaign #OceansWorthProtecting, launched by IMO, McLarens Group is a strong advocate for the preservation of our oceans and marine life.

The event witnessed the presence of esteemed guests and speakers who shared their insights and expertise on various aspects related to seafaring and ocean conservation. Notable attendees included Ms. Shehara De Silva, Group Managing Director of McLarens Group, Mr. Ajith Wijesinghe, Director General of Merchant Shipping Secretariat, Cpt. Nirmal Silva, Harbor Master, and Mr. Buwaneka Perera, Chief Executive Officer of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

Professor Sewwandi Jayakody, a distinguished expert in coastal ecosystem management and policy, delivered the keynote speech on the significance of protecting our oceans. Professor Jayakody's extensive knowledge and research on eco-system processes and functions, combined with her affiliations with prestigious environmental organizations, brought valuable insights to the audience.

During the event, McLarens Group HR team took the opportunity to recognize and appreciate our seafarers who completed 10 years of service in the Group by celebrating their "service milestones." This gesture highlighted the company's deep appreciation for the dedication and loyalty of its seafaring professionals.
