CASA Celebrates 25th Annual Six-a-Side Softball Cricket Tournament

On February 10th, 2024, the NCC grounds in Colombo bore witness to the 25th Annual Six-a-Side Softball Cricket Tournament organized by CASA, the eminent voice of the shipping industry. This sporting extravaganza stands out as a highlight in CASA's yearly calendar, eagerly anticipated by members and stakeholders alike.

What began as a modest sporting affair has now blossomed into a grand spectacle, drawing a staggering 60 gents' and ladies' teams in 2024. The recent addition of the Mini Tournament for Stakeholders has further ignited passion and engagement among participants. Amidst this fervor, the CASA Sports Committee's meticulous planning ensured seamless execution. This elevated the tournament to unparalleled heights of excellence.

The 2024 edition witnessed a vibrant display of sportsmanship and camaraderie, with numerous distinguished personalities gracing the event and the subsequent awards ceremony. Notably, McLarens Shipping and GAC Sri Lanka showcased their prowess with three formidable teams, comprising both men's and women's divisions. Amidst fierce competition, McLarens Shipping Ltd emerged as winners of the Fair Play award and secured multiple accolades, including the Player of the Tournament and Best Bowler titles.

In the women's category, GAC Shipping Ltd shone bright, with Praveena Somaweera clinching the Best Bowler title. Both McLarens Shipping Ltd and GAC Shipping Ltd demonstrated exceptional skill and tenacity. They reached the semi-finals and left a lasting impression of their competitive spirit.

Reflecting on the tournament, Mr. Ashan Welegedera, CEO of GAC Sri Lanka, expressed his appreciation, stating, " We are honored to have been part of the 25th Annual Six-a-Side Softball Cricket Tournament, where the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie shone brightly.
