The Ceylon Chamber and McLarens Maritime Academy Extend Partnership to Enhance Training in Marine Surveying
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and McLarens Maritime Academy (MMA) are pleased to announce the extension of their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which aims to provide comprehensive training programs to Ceylon Chamber-appointed Marine surveyors and potential Marine surveyors, for an additional five years.
Initially signed two years ago, under the renewed agreement, MMA, a subsidiary of the McLarens Group, will continue to collaborate with the Ceylon Chamber to deliver industry-leading training courses in maritime surveying. The extended MOU also aims to introduce fresh and innovative courses in Marine Surveying and streamline the appointment procedure for marine surveyors, thereby supporting the Ceylon Chamber’s endeavors to regulate and promote the maritime industry in Sri Lanka.
Led by internationally accredited industry experts with extensive experience, the training programmes will comprise theory followed by practical sessions on board McLarens Group’s own fleet of vessels. This unique approach ensures that trainees can apply the theories learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios, enhancing their competence and proficiency as marine surveyors.
‘The extension of the agreement is based on the benchmark service provided by the Ceylon Chamber in facilitating the training programmes, encouraging MMA to forge ahead with similar programmes that will ensure the industry’s continued growth and success’, Shanil Perera, Managing Director – MMA, stated. Secretary General and CEO of the Ceylon Chamber Mr. Buwanekabahu Perera added that with the increasing demand for marine surveyors in the maritime industry and the Sri Lankan government's vision of establishing a maritime hub in the Indian Ocean, these specialized training programs are instrumental in meeting the industry's current and future needs
