Nippon Maru, the Japanese luxury passenger Ship, called the Colombo Port on the 15th of February 2018. The ship was carrying 242 youths from diverse countries who were a part of a Youth Exchange Programme that aims to exchange cultural values, strengthen relationships and foster international goodwill.
The Nippon Maru programme was launched in 1980 by the Japanese government and this year’s visit commemorates its 29th call to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has been interested in the objective of this programme since its inception, along with countries, such as South Africa, Mexico, India and many more.
The youth aboard the ship went on a study tour with the Colombo University along with 10 field visits and enjoyed a cultural show at the Maharagama Youth Center.
MOL Lanka (Private) Ltd, a McLarens Group company, acted as the local agent of the vessel in Colombo.
