McLarens group is seeking an aspiring, energetic & a competent individual to join under Maritime & Logistics cluster as a Manager – Claims.
Key Responsibilities
- Secure and handle a wide range of claims, including, but not limited to, vessel entry, collisions, property damage, oil pollution, piracy, stowaways, medical assistance, crew injuries, and much more.
- Assign incidents to appropriate claim handlers within the department, ensuring that both customer and organizational requirements are met.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with IG Clubs and other key stakeholders, including local authorities, ensuring smooth handling of claims and providing solutions.
- Lead and mentor the claims team, providing support when interacting with authorities, coordinating incidents, and handling cases requiring senior intervention.
- Manage Protection and Indemnity (P&I) cases independently, following necessary processes and guidelines. Provide expert analysis of surveyor reports and feedback to customers.
- Assist in developing new business, products, and customers in areas like H&M and medical assistance. Identify and promote local and foreign opportunities.
- Manage budget preparation, market analysis, and provide monthly reports for department meetings and board meetings.
- Ensure adherence to all GAC policies, procedures, and industry standards, minimizing risks to the company and managing debtor control.
- Oversee resource allocation, performance management, and staff development. Drive staff motivation, succession planning, and completion of necessary training (IG PANDIQ Module 3).
Qualifications and skills
- Successful completion of the Minimum IG PANDIQ certification.
- A degree from the Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers or a qualified Lawyer in Shipping Practice.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar claims management role, with 2-3 years of shipping operations experience.
- Solid understanding of the legal aspects of the shipping industry, including regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Familiarity with P&I Club guidelines and the appropriate handling of claims.
- Systematic, rigorous, determined, and highly perceptive.
- Proactive and practical approach to problem-solving.
- Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
- Ability to work under high levels of pressure, with excellent prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
- Availability for out-of-office hours communication and phone calls, as the role requires being on-call.
- Extensive use of computers and software in daily tasks.
- Basic understanding of local and international shipping laws.
- Experience in dealing with high-ranking individuals, such as Consuls, embassy officials, and other senior stakeholders.
